Stuff the Cruiser 2024
Ucluelet's Holiday Spirit Shines Bright!
The holiday season is a time for giving, and the Ucluelet community truly embraced that spirit at our annual Stuff the Cruiser event! Despite the sunshine and clear skies, residents rallied together to support the Food Bank on the Edge, filling the cruiser not once, not twice, but THREE times over with donations of food, personal care items, and cash.
We had a chance to chat with Cris Martin from the Food Bank on the Edge to hear about the impact of this incredible community effort.
A Day of Festive Cheer and Generosity
"The atmosphere was amazing," Cris shared. "The beautiful weather definitely encouraged people to come out and participate. But what really stood out to me was seeing so many of our local RCMP members there, showing their support throughout the day."
The event was abuzz with activity, with the Jr. Rangers firing up the BBQ and serving delicious treats, adding to the festive atmosphere. The enticing smell of hot dogs and burgers, along with the promise of hot cocoa and cookies, definitely drew a crowd and helped contribute to the day's success.
More Than Just Food
The Food Bank on the Edge relies heavily on community support, and Stuff the Cruiser plays a vital role in providing them with essential items they often struggle to acquire. "Events like this are crucial for us," Cris explained. "We received a huge amount of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, and toilet paper, which are all things we can't usually purchase ourselves. These donations will make a real difference for our clients in the new year."
A Holiday Tradition with Heart
Stuff the Cruiser has become a cherished tradition in Ucluelet, and Cris highlighted the special connection the community has with this event. "People here really understand the importance of Stuff the Cruiser. It's a wonderful way to kickstart the holiday spirit of giving, and Ucluelet always steps up!"
Keeping the Spirit of Giving Alive
While Stuff the Cruiser was a resounding success, the need for support continues throughout the year. Cris reminded us that the Food Bank on the Edge welcomes donations year-round and relies entirely on the generosity of the community. "We are 100% volunteer-operated," she emphasized, "so every contribution, big or small, truly makes a difference."
